Heavy EngineeringStarting in 2001, the Group has been developing engineering business on the basis of its own industrial site in the town of Tikhvin, Leningrad Region. This production cluster is home to Titran-Express plant manufacturing units for railway equipment, units for bogies for electrical locomotives and various types of special-purpose railroad cars and products used in the defense industry. It also includes Tikhvin Freight Car Building Plant (TVSZ) scheduled for commissioning at the end of 2010 with production expected to begin in early 2011. TVSZ will manufacture railroad freight cars and new-generation bogies.
This is a unique project for the Russian engineering industry both in terms of technology and the scope of construction. TVSZ is the largest industrial facility under construction in Europe and one of the largest investment projects in Russia with total investments exceeding $1 bln. Going forward, it will be a modern production cluster with a high level of automation and robotic application ensuring the highest degree of productivity in the industry.
